WTB: convertible 330ci manual. Also looking for some tips

Guys,

I'm planning to buy a 330ci convertible, must be manual, must have sport package, and premium package would be great too. My budget now is $8500. I'm looking for a car with less than 110xxx miles and ideally located close to Northern California.

Also, if you could give me some tips about what to look when shopping for a E46 convertible, like unique issues that affect only convertibles. One question I have, is the sub frame in convertibles stronger than on the other body styles? Once I heard that the sub frame is not an issue in the convertibles but I want to make sure.

Thank you!!

Yes, later years of subframes in E46's were reinforced, and verts have reinforced subframes so that is not usually an issue for verts, although it's not impossible for verts to have the issue.

Of course check the top movement and the bat wings (see the post about repairing those). I can't think of vert only problems other than that. As with all E46s, make sure you know the age of the expansion tank as at those miles, hopefully it's been replaced... it's the part most likely to go on these cars. Much of the other stuff is posted when buying one... PPI, etc. GL.

Run the car through a car wash and you will find the leaks right quick.

Don't know of any specific places, but as the previous post said, just run a hose over it. There are drain plugs that can get clogged (not common, but it can happen) so water can puddle in your trunk, as it wouldn't drain properly. But, these are very well made as far as leaks so I really haven't heard many complaints/comments about that at all.

Also keep in mind these cars aren't meant to be washed the way many people do, by shooting a high-power nozzle at the side windows. It can handle the rain fine, but don't aim water into the window and top seals.
