How profitable are "cupcake stores"?

I think they make the majority of their money through catering. Depends on your connections and the competition in the area.

Start a Grilled Cheese truck, or shop...park/lease next to a college, and win.

i somewhat agree. but trying to guess what the next fad is, or rather trying to start one, is risky business.

Fads in effect right now (at least in my area):

-frozen yogurt
-cupcakes
-food trucks

You have a reality show and you have the franchise.

That is how Pawn Stars (Las Vegas) became famous.
They sold the idea to a producer.

But I may not be the best person to consult. I don't think that we need another burger joint, but 5 Guys , In N Out......just opened in our area. And they are doing well.....

Extremely profitable if you can sell. There is a couple around my house that are successfully, $3 for a cupcake and most people walk out with a dozen. The box is probably the most expensive cost. Flour, sugar, water, icing are cheap. I honestly don't know how they survive. I would never spend $36 on a dozen of cupcakes.

Burgers is the #1 fad in the country right now. Food trucks isn't a fad, as each one can serve something else.

Its nice that you and your family supports your sisters dreams. But just because she can bake a mean cupcake does not mean she can run a business. it takes a lot to run even the smallest of business's, whose gona do her books daily, make sure there is enough product, order products from vendors, pay sales tax every month. Is she willing to work 7 days a week and stay ontop of her employees to make sure no ones kiting from the register? Is she willing to be the last person to get paid IF theres profit left at the end of the week/month? My suggestion is that she go work at a bakery, get the experience she needs, and not just on how to bake but on how to run basic day to day operations.

trend. not even as big as frozen yogurt, but it's something small businesses are working with, cupcakes somehow made it viral and everyone is looking into opening one now

i'm more into the business side of things. i have the knowledge to manage a store like this and have the access to knowledge to run a business if i need it.
