BMW e46 318- leaks/ burns oil.

I have replaced ; oil filter seals/ oil filter housing gasket seals. The car still burns 2 quarts a month, however it seems to be smoking even more than previously. Any suggestions?

Clogged PCV increases crankcase pressure and causes all sorts of leaks. Those engines are horrible for oil leaks.

How many kays? Done a compression test?

Thank you for the reply, the car is a 2002 318i, with 225 k mileage.
1: can I replace the PCV, as a simple DIY?
2: The oil separator, I will look into.

My Ride: 2001 318i & 325i
I am in the market for a 318i and had a chat with my Indy who services my 2001 325i and 1993 525i (which is what I am replacing).

His advice was; Stay clear of the N42 2.0L engine, Burns Oil, lots of Vanos problems, Get a pre 09/2001 318i with the M43TU 1.9L engine ... bullet proof in his opinion. 200,000km just run in!
