Key fob and review mirror questions

When I bought my 2001 M3 it only came with a valet key and no rearview mirror. I know that the 2001-2003? m3's came with the oval rear view mirror but my dad got me the rectangle one and this came with some concerns. The trim around it doesn't fit since the rain sensor thing was larger on the earlier models but this isn't the issue. I am going to get a fob key and get it programmed but will the key still work when I get the correct mirror down the line and will it work even though the plugs are the same on the mirror?

you'll probably have to go to the dealer for the key. my guess is the original two keys' batteries went dead and... here you are with the valet key. i don't see why you'll have an issue between the mirror and keys.
