330i automatic gearbox on 325i

Hi guys,
A friend of mine has 325i M54B25 but his automatic transmission has failed. I have a spare automatic gearbox in perfect condition from 330i. Is it possible just to replace the gearbox with torque converter without any trouble and fault codes? As I can see the control units are the same and maybe the gearbox internals are the same just the torque converter of 330i is stronger. Any ideas?

The 330xi and 325xi has a GM transmission, the 330i and 325i has a ZF.

Software would have to be replaced.
The 330 is longer gears.
Just an update with WinKFP.

Both cars are rear wheel drive with ZF transmissions. So do you think that 330 gearbox can be fitted? I also have the transmission control unit...

You are right.
In Europe there is the GM transmission (only) for the 330xi.
