330 SMG Stuck in reverse

Ok im racking my head here

I have a customers 04 330i with SMG here that is stuck in reverse

When it came in I troubleshot it down to the SMG pump. The pump was getting power but not turning on. Waited 3 weeks for a pump to get here and replaced it. Good thing we did because the slave was leaking as well. Get it all wrapped up and pump turns on like it should. Car is still stuck in reverse. If you move the shifter you can here the pump work like it should but no change in the gear indicator.

I can not communicate with the transmission control module. The DME has code 299a communication error to EGS.

I have verified the following.
power at pins 7,1,21,11
ground at pins 5,17
continuity to DME
pin 36 to DME 4
pin 37 to DME 3

Also verified continuity from DME to cluster on the can lines and they are good

Any thoughts?

Maybe something bad with the clutch or gearbox? I've heard of some instances of the throw out arm becoming unseated in a manual car...not sure how different the SMG in internally.

Quick update, replaced the SMG control module and programmed it which restored communication. Still couldnt switch gears though. Ended up the pump shorted the module and the gear selector sensor on the top of the transmission as well. All is well now.........
