Raceland coilovers popping noise.
So I installed these on my 02 330ci and I'm getting a popping noise drivers side. The coil sounds like its binding and popping. I jacked up drivers side and moved spring around to mimic the sound.....seems like the upper coil is rubbing the top cap. Is there supposed to be a spring pad between these parts? It looks to me that there should be one?

Aren't Raceland coilovers supposed to make all kinds of horrible popping noises?

Check to see if the washer between the upper spring perch and strut mount is installed. That noise is from the strut mount bearing not seated correctly so the mount makes contact with the spring perch causing the spring to rotate on the coilover itself. Or it just might be Cause Raceland.

the poping is the system clicking into sport mode, it means you will be able to corner faster and harder, push it to the limit

The popping noise is your coil over saying, "I'm a piece of sh1t".

The passenger side is perfect. There's something I don't on different I guess. Is there supposed to be a washer between the top hat of coilovers and the strut mount?

I just can't find this popping. Almost sounds more like spring binding. I checked over everything, strut mount bearing seems good. Any ideas?

That binding noise is because your strut bearing isn't pressing on the center of the bearing allowing the coil-over to rotate freely. You need to put the proper sized washer in there for the noise to go away. Proper size is enough to touch the inner bearing race and not touch the outer race.

I used my oem washers. Seems to only touch inner race. Basically covers the size of the bearing dust shield. Note* this is only on one side. This weekend I'm a take it all apart again and start from beginning

Popping and clunking going straight and not turning and it's not your end links.
Trying to think back to my race land experience. Front end clunk you either didn't torque your strut mounts down proper or you may have included or excluded a washer between the coilovers and the strut mount. Unbolt one end link if you want to eliminate end kinks as your culprit. Easiy way of knowing if your preloaded from longer end links than you need. Don't drive like a maniac but try to generate the clunking again. Still clunks and it's something else. |
