Before any idiot says 'ban schools' or the like have some respect for the children.

It amazes me how gun apologists swarm these threads with complete disrespect of the deceased

Young kids too. Active shooter situations seem to becoming more and more frequent.

Saw this I believe the only confirmed deceased as I read last was the gunmen...injuries though for individuals, didn't read how many.

It's crazy how many schools including my high school (upper middle class town) has metal detectors.

It would have been only ghetto schools that would have that.

Times have changed.

I think jj would agree that we need to arm our kindergartners with 9mm semi automatics

You keep looking for a lock solid prevention or solution to these incidents... There are none

This stuff happens and will continue to happen. The problem is a social and environmental issue, not a physical or mechanical one. Guns, knifes, bats and fists are only tools. The actor has some sort of mental, emotional or social issue they simply can't control. Parenting, education, love and support is what is needed, not taking tools from peoples' hands. It only hurts the good people.

Fix it upstream not downstream.

People need perspective and not tunnel visioned reality based on isolated, media sensationalized events.
When these events happen, only a handful of people die (1-3). These events occur maybe once or twice a year tops...

Perspective? A child dies every 3 seconds for starvation in the world.

Guns are banned in our country. There has never been a school shooting. Its really that simple.

Would you like some perspective/facts on your country?

Northern Ireland has always been a bastion of violence-free peaceful living.

It's hard to say what the solution is but we should never accept this as the norm.

Nytimes is reporting multiple deaths btw

Wow!

I did not expect this from you. I don't lose faith in humanity as I used to, because if you look, people will surprise you in positive ways as well

RIP to whoever has died.

Unconfirmed reports say that principal Dawn Hochsprung and a school psychologist were killed, according to a parent who claimed to witness part of the attack, CNN reported.

CBS reports that a student's father was the shooter.

A hospital representative in Danbury told NBC that medical facilities admitted three victims from Sandy Hook School.

Reports say that the alleged shooter appeared in the building's main office at about 9:40 a.m., approximately 30 minutes after the school day began.

The initial 911 call said that students were trapped in a classroom with the adult shooter who had two guns, according to WABC.

you're right, this shouldn't be accepted as the norm. But banning guns doesn't stop people from killing one another.

Nobody uses marijuana, right?

Now that would be worth considering.
