My chunky self posted a pic. I did notice this evening I am getting more defined than the pic I posted. You can start to see the definition of my lower abs. I love progress.

All you guys must be studs.

I'm between 30-35%, was 25% at one time.

lol, +1

I'm probably around 20% but someone who looks more like 25% was telling me how to lose weight.

The best coaches were the worst players. Please take your dumb comments elsewhere.

Come on B, you have to give the statement a bit of credence. You're speaking as if the minority is the majority. I'd have a very, very hard time listening to a personal trainer who didn't look the part (..despite their knowledge base). Sure, there are plenty of examples that support your analogy (..much like I know plenty of Capoeira teachers who suck at Capoeira, but are really good teachers), but still...

...nobody wants to listen to the guy who can't follow his own advice (..and nobody wants a Capoeira mestre who sucks). How seriously would you take the advice of a trainer who looks worse than you do?

Disclaimer: There are people here who continuously offer excellent information (..and whose knowledge I respect), but who may not be in better shape than I am. They are valuable contributing members to the H&F forum, but they ARE the rarity though!

Nick, I'm never going to let you off the hook for telling me to go running wearing a garbage bag and sweat pants to lose weight. Similarly, I'm not going to let that other guy off the hook for his low-sodium, high water intake "diet".

If you took a picture of me without clothing, you wouldn't think I'm someone who takes nutrition or my health seriously. Being in this game for over 12 years has taught me many things. What works for me may not work for others. When it comes time for me to dump weight, you bet I will be running with a trash bag under my sweat suit.

What's wrong with high water intake?

Nothing wrong with drinking lots of water, but too much much water and too little salt/electrolytes causes hyponatremia. The guy was suggesting something like avoiding all sources of sodium and drinking 2 gallons of water a day, and somehow that alone would burn calories.

You're a 6'2" 270 pound lineman. You lose more weight taking a shît than I do with a week of hard exercise and watching my diet.

These stories always tend to inflate the info a little bit. I'm sure he didn't say that.

Inflated to some degree. I think the difference here is a huge difference in body size between him and myself if he's about to lose 55 pounds in a summer. Also, it is the same guy who told the "me and buddies with 350bhp" story so much credibility was lost there. Here is the exact quote:

There's a cheap OTC stuff called Diurex... It's like 7$ at Walmart take it the last 10 days or so it helps that a lot but it's only temporary water loss but it's good for 5lbs by its self. Doing this set up I lost 55lbs over the summer with no exercise in 3+ months GL!

Thats legit advice. You would definitely lose tons of weight. Keyword weight... he lost a ton of fat and obviously muscle. Any dude looking to lose fat should be lifting weights a minimum of 3 times a week, and eating their bodyweight in protein a day (1 lb = 1 g).

Anyone with 55 lbs to lose obviously has it easier, I never take into account anyones timelines with weight loss. More to lose = easier it comes off.

The meal thing used to be standard advice, however new discoveries with the interminent fasting regime have proven that eating frequently doesn't A) stoke the 'metabolic' fire due to the thermic effect of food and B) total energy expenditure (cals in - cals out) reigns supreme over everything

Coincidentally, I just read the below earlier today in an article about personal trainers...

We’re not saying you need to tell a potential trainer to rip off his shirt and show off his six-pack before you hire him, but let’s be honest. He should appear pretty fit. “The very best trainers are the ones who live, eat, sleep and breathe health and fitness,” Duffy says. Plus, you won’t be inspired to get in the best shape of your life by someone with a gut, right? And as Duffy puts it: “If you’re going to climb Mt. Everest, are you going to go with a guide who has been there numerous times—or someone who read a book on how you get there?” Enough said.
