New member from Alaska
Recently bought my first BMW car, a 2004 325Ci. RWD, Sport package, manual trans and leatherette interior....pretty basic, but just the kind of car I've been dreaming of owning/driving for the past 40+ years (since I was 15 and wanted a 2002 tii). 77k miles and in very nice condition. Hard to find a car like this, up here in Alaska.
I've ridden BMW motorcycles for 15+ years, but this car is something special for me. I've owned practical cars (mostly Hondas etc) for all of my adult life....this is the first car I bought, just for the sheer joy of driving it. I've had a week to enjoy the car. No snow here (unusual for this late in October), dry roads, but cold temps (15-25F). The car currently has Pirelli Nero Zero summer tires on it....so I've had to be extra careful. It will be going into winter storage on Monday, not coming out until May 1st. Just wanted to say hi and I look forward to participating in the forum. Welcome Gary. Congrats on getting your BMW; you will LOVE it! This site is a great place for discussion, and I've solved lots of issues when working on my car with the help of everyone here.
If it's under 37 degrees every time you drive, you must be hearing the freeze warning chime?

Thanks CityJohn! I've put almost 1,000 miles on the car in 1 week.....and yes, I am loving it! Handles better than any car I have ever owned. I also really enjoy the linear power of that inline 6. There aren't very many miles good winding roads up here, but I've hit all my favorites multiple times since I picked the car up. My favorite stretch of winding road here is 65 miles long from Palmer to Sheep Mountain Lodge. 65 miles of great scenery (mountains, rivers, lakes, glaciers) and many elevation changes. This time of year, very little traffic (all the RVs have left the state or been put away for the winter). Nothing like some of the great roads I'm familiar with in WA, OR and northern CA (my wife and I have a couple of motorcycles stored in Seattle area).
I'll be thinking of possible upgrades to the car over the course of the long Alaskan winter. Might have some questions re suspension upgrades etc. The roads here are not in great condition (lots of frost heaves, ruts, etc), so I have to keep that in mind. Here's one more pic of the car..... Gary |

Thanks Chris, wardpower, MercForHire, pawelgawel and 777eThOd*.....whew! My 325Ci is in winter storage now and won't be back on the road again for 6 months (May 1st).
I'm already feeling symptoms of Bimmer withdrawal! Wish I lived someplace much warmer. Gary Alaska PS....F650....I had one of those! It was my first BMW motorcycle (1999, silver, F650 classic). Last edited by PhotonRyder; 11-01-2012 at 11:19 PM. |
