AFE Pro Dry Filter fitment question

OK, to start, I tried searching but couldn't get this question answered... maybe because it's a silly question, but here goes.

I have a eurosport (conforti) intake in my 330 and the filter is disintegrating. I want to replace the filter, just the filter, with the AFE pro dry cone found on their stage 1 system. Found them for $57 on the AFE site. How big is the opening on the back of one of those? The conforti has a CF extension in front of the MAF with a female connection on the filter side (3.5" diam. opening). Im thinking that if the AFE filter is about the same size in the back, I can just slip it over that CF piece and tighten it down. From the pictures the CF piece looks like it will be way too small as the AFE filters look big at the back. Does anybody possibly have experience with this?

For what it's worth, Turner no longer sells eurosport intakes for the E46 330i for a reason. It throws codes like crazy, even with software. The heatshield is nice and it looks/sounds awesome, but I am tired of resetting the SES light.
