I would keep the 318 it gets way better fuel efficiency. Is your 318 an e30? I wonder what it would be like to drop an N20 motor in that? I've got an E30 325is that has been modified a little, when the engine dies which seems like never I'd like to get the BMW P13 racing engine 310HP and 420NM TQ. and the MAX RPM 7,000.

I saw this car on ebay. Are you the new owner or are you selling it? Either way, awesome car man.

Where do you even get the "P" racing engines? Old race cars? I've heard next to nothing about them... I assume a P50 has more in common with a E36 M3 engine than an E46 M3 engine...

If your looking for factory race power BMW AG Motorsport sells the P65b40 V8 rated at 485HP and can be easily tuned with some spare BMW AG Motorsport racing parts to produce 515HP. These are non street legal factory BMW AG Motorsport racing engines and not built for the street. Also they will not plug and play with other street legal engine harness or instrument clusters, these are the real deal and require the BMW AG Motorsport wiring harness, 2D instrument cluster and stand alone engine management system built and tuned by BMW AG Motorsport division.

Quick Note for the cost effective enthusiasts please remember this because it has a point in the end when comparing torque: The old BMW M5 engine inline six S38b38 produced 340HP and 301LBS of torque in 1992 and the BMW M3 inline six engine S54b32 produced 333HP with 269LBS of torque both street legal before tuning begins.

BMW Racing team PTG was given the P50/S50b32 engine from BMW AG Motorsport producing 400HP to 420HP depending on the cam setup and completely loaded internally with motorsport parts for racing. The BMW ALMS Team PTG made significant improvements and with out giving away all the dirty secrets the BMW Race Team gave the 3.2 liter a stroke to 3.4+ Liter and changed the already amazing BMW AG Motorsport Factory racing exhaust manifold AKA. Header "MY BAD HAD TO MAKE A CORRECTION HERE ON MY STATEMENT... TO BE HYPER ACCURATE" The PTG Inc. Racing Team cloned the original BMW AG Motorsport racing header, the design is already perfect as far as flow, they wanted to save even more weight so cloned it in new material, titanium. Thomas Milner new how to spend BMW Factory bucks, downside is the cloned exhaust manifolds PTG had made didnt last long and crack. The Factory BMW AG Motorsport original exhaust manifold is just better quality construction. I have the last two never used original sets in the world if anyone want to buy one hit me up.

So BMW Team PTG was out to save weight and get better handling characteristics by moving the engine in the engine bay closer to center of car and lower, which lead to the aggressive side pipe exhaust system for even greater power gains. That was all done in the year 2000 as the PTG team learned in the E36 M3 PTG racing they started in 1995. Then in 2001 the USA street legal side of things got its proper E46 M3 engine the S54b32 which was a great culmination of what had been learned with the P50/S50b32 euro engine in racing but placed into a de-tuned street legal M engine. The new designation for the racing version BMW AG Motorsport E46 M3-GT race car engine from 2003 to 2006 was the P54b32 and it produced 420HP with 400NM stock which translates into 300LBS of torque at 5,650 RPM. and Maximum redline 8,600RPM. BMW Team PTG that represented BMW in the racing series here in the USA from 1995 to 2006 overhauled the then new E46 M3 race engine p54b32 supplied by BMW AG Motorsport in Germany to produce 450+HP normally aspirated engines. In closing the P50b32/S54b32 easily accepts the carbon intake manifold from the new P54b32 race engine and they also share in a performance Crank Shaft in these inline six race engines designated as the GTR CRANK from BMW AG Motorsport factory.

Extra information for the die hard enthusiasts, BMW AG Motorsport confirmed this M3-GT is equipped with GTR body and suspension parts. BMW MOTORSPORT built just a few of the GTR M3's some with the prototype P60b40 engine and some with the P50b32 race engine that was stroked out by BMW Race team PTG inc for the ALMS series. Switching subjects real quick I got an e-mail regarding a question about a side pipe exhaust system for a street car M3, all I can say is don't do it unless your making a race car. To make one the way the racing team did will require a full roll cage to support the custom tunnel job if you will regarding the exhaust side pipe system. If you do it without the roll cage your car will turn into a slinky structurally speaking.
