My e46 won't start up, what's wrong? Video included

I have a 1400watt amp with 2x 12inch subs - could that be the problem?

Battery seems run down.

Suggest you check it charged and check all your connections.

1400 Watt Amp probably requires a lot more than your alternator can easily supply continually?

Battery has gone whack.

Exact same thing happened to me long ago, car started immediately after a jump.

It could be because your subs are hooked up wrong, if you just got them installed I suggest you check them.

I tried jumping from the front terminals of a friends to my front terminals with no luck. Maybe I should jump it directly from the battery terminals and do it for a longer duration?

Yes try the terminals on the battery in the trunk (assuming that's where it is!)

Deffo just a Flat battery. Did you leave something on? Your alternator may have a problem but as you have a big sound system that may give you some clues. It doesnít take a lot to drain a battery overnight... might be as simple as your interior light, or your side lights or parking lights? Many people donít realise that if you leave your indicators on (left or right) the side lights on that side of the car will remain on when you leave it, itís for when youíre parked in a bad spot and want people to see the car... But it will drain the battery if done for a long time. Thatís what mine do anyway!

Here is a basic "No start" troubleshooting article: http://www.bavauto.com/newsletter/20...ter.pdf#page=4

Since your solenoid is clicking, you have enough battery power to engage the solenoid but not turn the starter. Test / charge your battery.
It may take several minutes with jumper cables connected to get enough power to actually start your car. The donor car should also raise the engine speed to 1000-1500 rpms to supply more current from the alternator to recharge/ start your car.

Most Auto Parts stores will test your battery to see if it is good or not.
You can also use the cluster to check your actual battery voltage, it should be >12.5 volts when you aren't trying to start the car, ignition on using the cluster test.

Did a direct jump from my friends battery terminal to mine and it started. I don't think it was my sound system as it was installed 3 months ago. I think since I live in the northeast (with hurricane Sandy) causing the dramatic temperature change (from 70-20 degree F) that might have caused the battery to die. Either that or one of my lights was one.
