Burnt oil/rubber smell only when stopped

The last few times I've left my car running while I run into a convenience store or wherever it will be idling for a few minutes. When I get back in the car it smells like I've been sitting behind an old school bus with the windows down and the bus exhaust being blown into my car. When I drive away the smell quickly goes away.

I'd say it smells sort of like burnt oil or rubber I guess...and it's bad.
Only thing done recently was an oil change 6-8 weeks ago, and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary (no smells) until this past weekend.

It could be your leaking valve cover gasket. Check out this thread and the responses. There is a link that shows the possible leak location and the DIY for the fix.

Classic VCG leaking symptom.
Look at the passenger side at the engine, the last and second last bolts holding the VCG should be leaking.
The oil drips on the hot exhaust and gives the smell.

Looks like I might be smelling my next weekend project.

Where the hell do you find a convenience store around here, that you would leave your car outside, running? Maybe you have a passenger who's armed to the teeth.

I'm down in League City/Friendswood (Clear Lake area). I sure as heck wouldn't leave it running inside Houston city limits...no way.

Ahh, that makes a bit more sense. I work at Greenspoint, aka Gunspoint. Any kind of a breakdown around here can be life-threatening, so I like to keep my cars mechanically pristine.

You can buy a good .45 ACP 1911 for the $700 you'd spend on a cooling system. Then you can refill your leaking system with gangster blood on the side of the road.

Is that the State Gun of Utah? Or is it a Browning M1911? I don't remember.

I guess that would be another definition of "bleeding every time you add coolant".
