Mike Larry needs a new mattress

I've never actually bought a mattress before because my previous apts all came furnished, so I have no idea what I'm doing. I need to buy a queen-size mattress. It doesn't have to be the most awesome/expensive mattress on the planet, but I'm not particularly on a budget either. Just wondering a couple of things:

1. Is there a best place to look? And are there stores to avoid (I'm thinking Ikea probably has crappy mattresses)? I have a Sleepy's near my home, but I don't even really know where else to shop around in order to comparison shop.
2. Is there a best time to buy? I'm in no big hurry to get the mattress; I just need it before the end of the year.
3. Any recommended brands?

I've heard nothing but bad things about Ikea mattresses. We purchased our mattress on a holiday when the store was doing a sale which knocked about $250 off the price. I typically see the sales on the memorial day/labor day/veterans day/4th of July holidays.

i actually went to my local costco today hoping to check out some mattresses, but they didnt have any in stock. i could buy online, but i wouldnt be able to test/feel/sit on the mattresses. do you have any experience with the brands they carry? are they any good? are costco's prices relatively good?

Yep, I got a Sealey soft (pillowtop) Queen from them for $650 shipped (mattress and box spring). Great mattress. Their Kirkland brand is also very good and I heard it has a 10 year warranty.

10 year warranty isn't much for a decent mattress

Just return it when you stop liking it and buy a new one. They do give you a full refund you know.

Also, You should replace your mattress ever 7 to 10 years anyways. They all start to sag and put pressure on your bones. Besides, think of all of the accumulated dead skin cells.

i thought costco stopped that policy last year.

Get a platform bed and order a memory foam mattress off O.co. I've had mine for years and love it.

Um... Sheets and a mattress cover. Invest in them.
