Help with P0198 service engine light

My service light is on even after changing out the temperature sensor on the oil filter housing. I also can't reset the light using the diagnostics computer.

The code I get is a P0198 which is engine oil temperature sensor high.

I have a 2004 330CI.

If you are having problem with the persistent annoying display of that warning light (service engine soon) in conjuction with intolerable oil consumption have your engine air intake mechanism especially the hoses underneath the manifold checked and replace them if cracked or hardened. It is very common for BMW engines to start having such problems between 50 to 100 thousand mileage coverage. It occurred to my 323i and I tried it and it worked. Unless if it is evident from the diagonistic scanning that you don't have such air leakage problem that mostly cause the sevice light to stay on. Hope for the best.

Strangely the next morning after a cold start the service engine light turned off and has stayed off for 3 mornings now. I'm not sure why a computer reset didn't clear the engine light again but whatever the case it turned off naturally on its own.
