Question A Toyota/Lexus 1UZ-FE electrical ? maybe...

Bought a 1995 Lexus LS400. Drove the car to work. Leaving work that evening and all the lights got dim. So I drove straight to Advance. They tested it and said the battery is totally dead. So I bought a new battery. Car fires right up. Drove the car home. Next morning driving the car to work all the lights get dim again. So I figured it must be the alternator. Dropped the car off to get the alternator replaced. Since the power steering is located above the alternator and looking at the service records the power steering pump replacement was the last service it had. I suspected the the pump leaked fluid into the alternator.

Fast forward to today..mechanic installed the alternator. When you turn the key to start it up the battery light doesn't show up on the indicator lights. The car now will not start. All the fuses inside and outside under the hood are good.
He wants to get the wiring diagram from Lexus and go to town

Any thoughts?

Any knowledgeable Toyota folks?
Yeah I know its a BMW forum

Make sure the alternator was installed correctly first. Ensure the new alternator functions properly out of the car - you can get it tested. Check the current draw with the car off, and trace that by pulling fuses

Good ole 1uz-fe, I sold my sc400 with 275,000 on it, I had similar problems, replaced the battery and alternator, and didn't have any problems after that. did the car run after the mechanic installed the new alternator?

Car starts up but still has dim lights like the battery is dying.
so frustrating.

Can a brand new alternator be bad?

anything can happen. Could be a wire that was damaged when the alternator was installed as well.

youre damn right a "brand new" alternator can be bad. Ive had many alternators and starters be bad right out of the box. It was probably a reman, and not brand brand new. Did you pay $150 or $300 for it?
