Commuter in a BMW in a former Commuters 323ci.

Hello from the Irish Hills, just down from Michigan International Speedway. I am a Teacher in a Suburb outside of Detroit and I've been driving there 68 miles one way for the past 13 years, so needless to say, I go through cars about every three years. I stopped by new cars a while back, when realized I could pick up a really nice used car that someone else has maintain, probably better than I, so that's when I started looking for European makes. My last car was a SAAB, it was a good car, but she decided to have a timing chain tension pulley issue and I decided it was time to give her away. So I did!

Just picked up a meticulously maintained 2000 323ci, which has a had a lot of services done to it in the past three years. The car was being sold by a private individual who maintained the car for "his clients" and he handed me a file with a numerous receipts. I sat down and entered each receipt into a spreadsheet and found that in the past 3 years the car had had more work done to it, than the previous owner had paid for the car. So I guess we'll call that a good thing.

Anyway, I"m in process of fixing/restoring a lot of minor cosmetic things on the car.

Welcome to the forum. You'll love your E46. Be sure to make sure the cooling system is up to date, the subframe is in good order, and that all of the fluids have been changed.

Thanks for the information. I've been doing a lot of reading, just like when I got my Saab Viggen, however the information here is a lot more plentiful.

Attached is the spreadsheet I put together with all the things that have been done in the past three years. The only thing I can't say I see is the cooling system. I will talk tot he gentleman, that maintained the car over the last year and see if he has done any of that and get any records from him.
