Seat back bolster repair

The driver’s side seat back bolster on my 2004 325XIT with grey leather is worn through and needs to be repaired. The rest of the seat is in really good condition, it's just the bolster section that is worn. I have searched and haven't found a DIY for taking the seat cover off. Rather than bringing the car or just the seat to an upholstery shop, I was thinking that I could probably save some money by just bringing the leather seat cover for repair.
Has anyone had a leather seat repaired that can offer any advice? I am also concerned about getting a reasonable match for the grey leather.
Thanks.

I wound up purchasing a passenger seat, the leather is the same for both sides, and putting the passenger side cover on the drivers side. The drivers seat is now like new. I paid $100 at a salvage place.
