CCV done

Well , yesterday i did my CCV with the help of Alpine325Coupe . First off, I have to say thank you to Ryan for coming over to help despite the cold ,and the crazy snow that was coming down. I would recommend having somebody help because there were some things I struggled with ,that he was able to do ( the hoses are a bitch to snap on ) ,and there were things he struggled with, that i was able to do .I cleaned my throttle body MAF while things were taken apart. The whole job took 3 hours ,start to finish. I forgot to connect harness to Throttle body ,so the first start up was rough. After I connected it , the car ran great. Its nice to know there are E46 members out there who are willing to help out a brother (Even in a driving snow).....

Thanks for the recognition James. Wasn't too bad of a job but it did help to have 2 people. The car has white smoke coming from the exhaust. It may be important to know that the smoke started after headers were installed. Car is currently cat-less, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I believe it does. The catalytic converters burn off the excess exhaust gases, no? Maybe headers just do that.

Idk...my M is cat-less and I don't have excessive white smoke. That's why I didn't think it was cat related.

Removing cats will cause more smoke on start up. How smokey are we talking? It will always be more smokey when the temperature is low and the car is cold

I was pretty smokey. It was 30 degrees out so maybe that has a little to do with it. Post a video!

I drove the car down to jones beach today and opened it up ... after its warm , there isn't much smoke at all. I checked all of my fluids and everything is fine. Seems worse on a cold start. Could be just the headers i guess. never did it before i installed them a week ago. I got paranoid and ordered ccv.. Guess it needed to be done anyway ,as she just turned 100k in Feb..

Definitely good that it was done regardless. The cold start smoke sounds normal. Enjoy

Edit : just watched the video, if it was below freezing that amount of smoke is nothing I would worry about.

UPDATE: I drove the car all day . No problems,, No smoke after warm up . I also re coded my car so seat belt light is not on when you dont wear the seat belt, euro hazards, and one touch alarm (unlocks all doors at once ) Synced LCM with Vin and mileage (no more tamper dot) .. The only thing left to do is passenger side lower control arm and upper strut mount , Then the car is ready for the summer. She's running STRONG!!!

I have a 3 second sucking noise after I turn off the car. Is this a sign of a bad ccv. My car is running horrid too. Did you do this solo?

Do you mean more like a whoosh every time you turn off the car ? that is normal . Signs of bad CCV is : excessive oil consumtion, rough idle, lots of greyish-white smoke. Causes positive crankcase pressue and blows gaskets, eventually motor failure.

I did mine 3 weeks ago. It tool me 6 hours by myself. You have to be super patient and keep going back to the online videos and DIY. Also I recommend getting OEM parts as I got after market ones and they would not snap on to place good
