I have an interesting idea

I was looking at my center ashtray today which got me thinking, I don't smoke why do I have this? Anyways I'm thinking about modifying the ashtray to fit an iPod dock for my new headunit in the future and putting some trim overlay to make it seamless. I plan to cut the back of the ashtray and slide the dock into it. What do you guys think about this? I think I have a saw that might work.

Cool, I might be getting a Dynavin d99 and I heard they have 2 rear USB ports, I will use one to connect to my dock. I'm actually one of the rare members who like my wood trim, I am planning to buy a new piece for my passenger dashboard because it is faded. So I will use the old piece to somehow create a seamless matching overlay glued on top of the dock/ashtray.

that will work. But if im not mistaken dynavin provides an IPOD dedicated connection, why not use that?

I want to make a custom dock, which will also dual purpose as a place to put my phone. I think most people with dynavins have the ipod cable in the glovebox, but I want something custom. If I can make it myself, not only will I save money but I will be proud of my creation.
