Reset oil light, but now only shows inspection interval?
Two issues:
1) I changed the oil today in my '02 325iT, with LubroMoly 5/30. It calls for 6.5 liters, which is what I put in. However, the dipstick says it's not enough. It barely registered above the bottom hash mark. So, I put in the other half and it topped it up. Any idea why it would require .5 liters more when ever manual says otherwise? 2) While resetting the oil service indicator, I'm assuming I did something incorrectly. Now, when I turn the car on, it only shows the mileage until Inspection, which is ~6000 miles. The oil service mileage was at ~2500. What did I do wrong? Thanks! |

The dipstick is calibrated for oil level at operating temperature. Low on the stick when cold is ok. Run the engine until it is fully warmed up then turn it off and let it sit approx 5 min. Then check the stick.

So, what you're saying is that now I've likely overfilled the engine?

Possibly. But get it hot then let it sit and check it.

Your oil capacity is 6.9 liters I believe. Maybe 6.9 quarts.
And your inspection/oil change interval should be 15,000 miles after a reset not 6,000 It will show inspection after oil service. It goes: Oil service, inspection, oil service, inspection, etc... An oil service is included in an inspection so it's kinda implied.
