99 e46 328i dual Vanos issue

What's up guys and gals?

Well, I somewhat new to the bimmer game and have been messing with my 99 328i for a couple months now. My original plans were to swap my ls2 into the chassis but after relentless searching I've decided to just keep this car as a daily and buy another is300 to swap the ls2 into.

My issues have been a cps code which was a nightmare to say the least. I went through a couple cheep intake cps's and ended up putting the OEM one back in and no codes! Now its skipping at lower rpms (1500- 3500). To replace the cam sensor I did take the solenoid off of the vanos to get to the cam sensor. Also, when I'm driving and come to a light or a stop sign and push the clutch in the MPG guage drifts from past 50 or in the neutral to 20 sometimes even 12. Yesterday I installed a new fuel filter and I seemed to pick up more power but still skips.

My question is what could be causing the skipping? Vanos, fuel pressure regulator, vacume leak, crank case vent system? Could me taking the solenoid off the vanos off be the cause?

I just want to know how to fix it. It's been a good car besides the skipping issue.

Other info in the car is it just tripped 200k and I have replaced the spark plugs recently with Bosch iridium plugs.

Thanks in advance!!!

Rebuild the VANOS pistons with new seals from Beisan Systems.

Is that difficult?? Will I need to buy the vanos tool or borrow one? I've been told you have to re- time it afterwards... that true??

I've heard of that company... they sell the o ring kit for like $60 right?

Thank you!

Also, I was doing some research about vanos and fuel pressure regulator symptoms and came across a thread where it says to unplug the solenoid and drive it...

I unpluged the solenoid and the skipping is virtually gone but i lost a lot of power
