iPad Mini Install Into Dash ?
Its been documented that the iPad Mini dimensions are a perfect fit to most car dashboards.
Is there any DIY out there or has anyone attempted to retrofit it into our E46. It would be perfect for those without nav and without an mp3 cd or aux input. The only problem with this would be of course theft of the iPad. Would increase chance of a break in. Maybe its possible to make it removalable? Last edited by adaseb; 11-19-2012 at 03:43 AM. |

I was wondering the same thing. Either a iPad mini or a Google tablet thingy. Seems like it would be great for nav, pandora, etc.

I've seen a few DIYs for full size iPads on newer mustangs.

If you remove the stock deck completely will it give you alarm problems? Or some CEL ?

Alarm, as far as I know are separate component and sensors. So, there wont be any problems as far as I can think of. Others can confirm if it is true. Installing an iPad mini should be simple if you can fabricate the dash panel for it. Basically it is an aux in(provided you do not want full OBD function like dynavin) component. Lightning adapter with USB for power and 3.5mm aux jack is all you need.

It would of been good if it came with a snap-in dash holder. So you could take it with you when you get home.
Maybe its possible to create using a charging dock. |

There is a mod for the iPad and a Jeep. I think it was on youtube. The guy had a cool idea for hiding it since it was inside a jeep. Look for that one.

you can install it but there are going to be issues... like how are you going to run the sound to your AMP??? steering wheel controls? etc just buy a android head unit...

Nav owner here, very interested in doing this. I basically listen to my iPhone all the time in the car, so why not have an iPad in there 24/7 with a data plan. Lots of good info in the links already posted, but not so much for navigation owners... My screen keeps loosing pixels and I would rather do this than replace it and/or buy a new $200 navigation disk... Loosing regular (ancient) radio capability wouldn't phase me. Between my own library and Pandora, I would be set!
