OEM navi screen has no display... NEED HELP! PLEASE!

Here is a video of what is going on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=qACU7WjDV4o

THe screen looks like it powers up and powers down when the key is turned on, but diplays absolutely no info. The display is backlit. The radio works fine, except I cant see what channel I'm on.

33% of the people I speak to say its the screen
33% of people say its the GPS unit in the trunk
33% of people say it is the actual in-dash radio unit

All of this $hit is expensive, so I dont really feel like experimenting by replacing individual components. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

It's 100% your navigation unit.

The nav unit acts as the graphics card to the screen and is also the brains. The bm53 /bm54 is completely different, so that's why that is powering up and working.

Think of it as a computer. You out music on, but then pull the plug for the screen. Screen off, music still playing.

Now, there are a number of reasons why the navigation unit has crashed.
Could be a recent battery drain, a bad laser or someone ddisconnected the battery or unit whilst it was powered up.

As long as the red light is still on it, you can try a few things. Remove the map disc, wait for it to power down, then disconnect the unit for 15 mins.
If no luck, then get yourself a firmware upgrade disc and put that in and wait for upto 30 mins. Usually doesn't take that long, however, depends on how bad the crash is and what point it crashed.

If you were in UK, I would suggest you send it into my workshop, to be analysed and repaired.

Hope that helps.

How do you disconnect the nav to get it to reboot? Pull the fuse?

I have an e46 m3 with the mk4 nav. My nav was working only sporadically and I usually received an error message that the disk could not be read or that there was no disk in the nav.

I recently purchased updated nav disks, which came with the 32.2 firmware update, but I cant get the firmware to load. (I left the door open and carefully followed the install instructions). Can it really take up to 30 minutes for the firmware to load? I waited about 10 minutes on several occasions with no luck.

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. I miss the nav.
