Looks like you put the filter in the engine bay.

nothing wrong really, just not particularly "long tube".

Nothing wrong. It's easy to put a filter on a short tube if you don't care about it sucking hot air from the engine compartment. Just not sure how it pertains to this discussion.

That's great and all, but it doesn't really pertain to this thread. Maybe start one of your own?

well to those people posting "short tube" intakes, (not sure if i should say 'ram-air'), the stock intake pulls cold air with the snorkel, just like the most recent one shown. however, the longer tube puts the intake in a bath of cold air from beneath the engine, so its just a more efficient way of getting at the cold air. however, i have read a few things that may suggest the longer tube style of intake makes its gains in the pattern of air flow, as well as the decreased air temp. This means that the longer tube smooths out the air flow which works better with the MAF, allowing the DME to adjust better to the different intake and air delivery.

Did you find that this helped a lot over a hot-air short ram setup if you've ever had one? I know it seems like a dumb question, but my long-tube setup that I used to have, exactly like yours was more restrictive and even quieter, so I switched back to a large K&N filter hooked directly on to the MAF to get that loud intake noise again. With that noise came enough air-flow that I noticed a few extra HP.

Yes, I logged a 20-30 degree improvement in intake temperatures with this over my old short-ram Conforti setup.

I dyno tested this intake back to back with my Conforti and saw no difference in horsepower with the long-tube, but the dyno does not take into account heat soak since the hood is up. There is no extra restriction in a long-tube setup that is properly sized.

I highly doubt you had any horsepower improvement with a short ram. As it is, intakes provide almost no gain on these cars. It's really all about sound.

Must have been something off with the size I used, and the filter was probably dirt cheap as well. All very cheap. Not likely 3.5".

Butt dynos are notoriously inaccurate.
