Question ess tuning superchargers

I am planning to buy a supercharger for my 2005 325i. ESS has a stage1 without an intercooler. It can be upgraded to a stage2 which has an intercooler. the difference in price is 1500 dollars with minimal power and performance gains. I am wondering about what conditions I might need an intercooler. I am assuming that there conditions in which you don't need one since they sell them without intercoolers.

Pressurized air creates heat. Heat creates detonation and final meltdown. If you live in a colder climate, you might get away without the intercooler. If you live in a hot humid climate, the intercooler is going to save you a lot more than $1500 in the long run.

Intercooler is relatively cheap compared to a new engine. Personally, I wouldn't build any kind of FI setup without one.

The cooler your intake temperatures, the better. A higher intake temp increases all temperatures across the board (combustion temp, exhaust gas temp, cylinder wall surface temp, etc). Don't cheap out on an FI install.

Intercooler = lower intake temperature - ability to raise boost level.
Stage 1 on 325 was fun but once you start upgrading it's never enough. I am on 330 with stage 2 now already thinking about stage 3.

My 325i ts1 with 3.46 rear end holds up just fine against my buddies Ls1 vette. It's funny how people only look at peak numbers. I'd get the ts2 though. With stock rear end you will be in m3 territory which is c5 base territory.

We only offer the 325 kit in a level 2 format with intercooler for this reason. The amount of heat generated by supercharging starts taking its toll on the engine especially if you are planning on tracking the car at all.

I suggest going the intercooler route and getting it out of the way.
