Please tell me, just exactly how could a fuse cause an alarm to go off?

OP: try unplugging your hood sensor (by the drug bin). often times it's been known to be that on the E39 models.

when I first got the viper alarm system it would go off all the time. Eventually found out that it was something to do with the trunk sensor. I removed the fuse for the trunk sensor and its never given a false alarm since. Think it was something to do with the trunk light, but that would mean the trunk light goes off and on randomly at all times?

my 2003Ci OEM BMW alarm did that until i replaced the hood sensor (by the drug bin) it's less than $10 and is a 30 second no tools swap.

The hood sensor is the most common source of the alarm going off for no apparent reason, but, the actual source is stored in the GM5's shadow code memory. If you want to be sure you need to get the fault codes read out. If you are content shooting in the dark then start with the hood sensor,

I have a 2005 M3 convertible and have had a similar problem. I noticed the alarm went off after I had been in the glove compartment. Once closed with a bit of force the alarm stopped going off. Might be worth a try.

Sure if you don't mind trying and trying and trying until you happen to hit upon the source of the problem that's fine. If you want to get right to the source of the problem you need to read the fault codes stored in the GM5. It will tell you exactly what set off the alarm and how many times it's happened.

How do you get the fault codes from the GM5, how much is the equipment or how much for a garage to get them off?
