Hey
Has anyone bought updated Navigation Map Discs from this guy before? Link: http://www.navigationau.com/navigati...ies-x5-x6.html If so, did they work properly? Any problems? Reviews? Thanks |

Only v16 is available and is about 3 years old now. It's possible that he's purchased legit copies and is just copying them but possibly even his v17 and v18 versions are really just v16.

Over at GPS Underground I'm told the MS5000 version will work. I'd spend $199 for a legit version from Whereis before I bought from this dodgy guy.

The v16 downloads work fine.
The CARiN disc format is what's used. From GPS Underground Quote:

I'm waiting to hear from Whereis regarding what roads made it into v19. If it includes some of the new roadworks around Brisbane I may buy. $200 is much closer to reasonable (I think somewhere in the $50-100 range would get a lot more buyers) compared to $300-600 from the dealer.

Whereis looks promising, would it work with the MK4 stock E46 navigation computer?
Has anyone bought it yet? Thanks |

Yes that should work for any E46 stock navigation system from MKI to MKIV and makes sense since it's just CARiN navigation. There shouldn't be any special reason you need a BMW disk. The text file on my V16 disk says:

Keep it above board here.
It works fine. There are multiple sources. |

I did actually. Took them a while to reply though.
Their release notes attached here for V18 and V19. I note that a number of the V19 "updates" are the same as V18...[/cynic] Last edited by Shonky; 11-27-2012 at 10:40 PM. |

Duh... yeah should have mentioned that... Not thinking straight today
Actually yes I did buy the v19. A couple of observations from very limited driving (mini review): 1) It also has Airport Link seemingly complete (even though not mentioned in the notes I posted). 2) Looks like maps are TomTom based about June 2012 which doesn't match some of the doco (i.e. V19 notes show as May 2012). From the ABSTRACT file: Quote:
4) Had a small play with POIs (but never use them). There is a new TPD folder compared to V16 and that has some HTML type pages in it that the MKIV seems to understand and can use. Haven't gone back to my V16 to see what it showed. 5) Shipping was fast - only 2 or 3 days with standard delivery even though it said 5-7 or something 6) Comes as a pressed CD 7) Works fine so far with everything I've tried (limited though at the moment) even though not a BMW disc. 8) Fairly happy with the purchase given it's got the latest tunnels on it. Before anyone asks, no I will not make copies. Sorry. I don't think $199 is completely unreasonable for a 10+ year old nav system. If you want me to check if a road or address exists I can probably do that for you. |
