Once released, how far should the trunk open?
Simple question.
When you hit the trunk release switch in the car or press the trunk open button on the remote transmitter, how far should the trunk open? Is it supposed to swing all the way open 90 degrees? or is it supposed to simply 'pop' open for you to manually lift the rest of the way? |

I have a convertible with a manual top. My trunk simply unlatches and doesn't lift at all. I never gave it much thought.
After the effort it takes to put the top up/down, raising the trunk lid is not really an effort. My Honda (1997 civic 4dr) trunk lid however, springs to attention like a love-sick adolescent when I hit the release. I guess it might be a nice feature if you have an armload of stuff to put in the trunk. Has BMW added this feature to newer cars?

My E46 & E39 just "pop" as well as my New Beetle convertible.
The E38 will open if it has the electric opener option as I recall.

Dude, how lazy are you that you can't be bothered to lift the thing up to open it and push it down to close it?

its done like that as a safety feature.. so incase you accidentally pop it. it looks as if its not even open so people dont go snooping.... i actually like it that way ive poped mine before on accident and didnt even know until i started the car and it showed me it was popped on the dash.

Same with the E90's and F30's... The trunks just unlock, they don't swing open.
