Premature pad wear at 12k miles?

So the pad sensor just came on after driving to lunch today. I bought the car with 60k miles almost 2 years ago and replaced the pads. I just hit 72k miles a few days ago and and was greeted with this new PITA. Can this even be possible? I plan on taking a look once I can get it to my parent's garage over xmas (only street parking in Philly) but still have a hard time believing my Akebono euro's are gone already. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Bad sensor maybe? I thought ceramics would last a bit longer than their metal counterparts, especially since they seem to have such bad stopping power.

Also, if I reset the warning light in the dash, will it come up again in a few days (what I want) or permanently disable the sensor until I replace it?

Quick update for anybody in a similar situation:

Pulled off the front driver tire and found the brake pad sensor cut open right in the middle of the wire. It somehow came unclipped and rubbed upon something until it tore. Pads still have at least 50% of materials left and everything is fine. Replaced the sensor with a brand new centric sensor from amazon. Warning light turned off.
