The cost of protein - for real?

For real? Rising costs in Whey...

I went to BB.com to buy a 10lb bag of ON Whey, they want $105.00
I remember buying that bag for $65.00.

What protein out there is affordable and still good? Or should I expect to pay this now?

to think that farmers used to just toss whey out as a side effect to cheese making.

Have you tried Dymatize? I read some reviews on it and everyone seems to say it tastes good. It's roughly .68 a scoop too.

No, only from user accounts who just launched.

I guess the big marketing thing now is protein, big companies are buying it all and driving up the cost. Crazy.

No thanks on the Costco/Sams/WalMart stuff. No way am I buying some Chinese garbage made in facilities that can't even produce non-lethal dog treats.

As for eBay, try to find one where the seller is a sponsored athlete. Or, even better, try to befriend a sponsored athlete and see if they'll sell to you. Many of them are paid in product (entirely if they're greener, cash + product for more seasoned athletes) and sell it on the side for extra income.

Great call Dave, I'm going to keep eye open for that. In the mean time, I had no choice but to buy from BB.com.

It's chalkier tasting but mixes well; honestly I'd just pay more for ON. The vanilla by dymatize is weird tasting

I didn't say Cytosport is Chinese.

VERY few supplement companies manufacture their own product - the vast majority is outsourced to Asia.

The companies tend to be very careful in their wording.

Most say something to the effect of, "ABC company is located in California and the product was made in a state of the art facility," expecting you will assume that means the product is made in California...but it's not. It's often very difficult to find anything from the company staying the country of manufacture (unless its USA - then they want you to know.)

ON is only able to produce their own product because they are part of a large dairy conglomerate.

Is that the one owned by Dante Trudel? I've never used it and don't know anybody who has.

I used to use EAS brand whey. I think it was $22 for a tub that lasted about a month drinking 1 shake a day. They sell it everywhere.

I stopped drinking protein shakes a while back though. I get enough protein in the foods I eat. About 170grams a day.

Sorry, seemed that you insinuated that, considering that's what sold at Costco etc. their product is stated to be manufactured in CA. And their procedures are regulated by the FDA. opinions be opinions, regardless I know a lot of people that use it with happy results. Certainly isn't the best, but last time I checked this thread was about the raising prices of whey.

Costco is also one of the only retailers that sells c4 extreme and can be found for great prices.

The dymatize samples I've tried (choc/vanilla) tasted really bad so never bothered with their protein. Was awhile ago though
