Should be very cool. I have followed what you have done to your car and an engine swap seems like a much better option than getting rid of it. Good luck with it. I look forward to pictures.

Say, founder of the 6S-Tourings, didn't you super/turbo charge that wagon at one time? What happened? I'm not sure what that new engine spec is you're calling out above but it's probably a nice one! Care to speak to what it is?

The 3.0 out of a 330i, 330xi, 330ci, 530i, or an X5. Just like you have an M54b25. The M represents the nature of the engine (Motorsport (S) vs. regular (M) , the 54 representing its architecture/family the b representing gasoline (as opposed to diesel) and the last two digits represent displacement.

Had a vortech blower on it, didn't like the way it "felt" IE: sluggish. If i had to do it again a twin screw (ess) system would be what i'd choose, or a turbo.. both of which will work great with this new motor since it has a forged bottom end

So I went to go pick up my 35k miles (carfax verified) m54b30 yesterday:

did I mention that this is a "Super Storm Sandy" motor (ie it lived underwater for a little while, yes I got a great deal on it :

Most of that washed out right away, but seriously ugghhhh

That said, all the areas not touched by water are PRISTINE, and the oil level was on point, ie no/minimal water outside the cylinders:

Anyways stuffed it into the wagon and brought it home:

My buddy andy let me borrow his engine stand so I could flip it around and look at the crank and rod bearings (Haven't pulled any yet, but crank looks mint, no corrosion in bottom end at all)

(new neighbors were moving in today, they took one glance at the motor in the front yard and sighed- lol)

Next step is to send the head to the machine shop, have it cleaned and checked, I really hope it's salvageable because how minty it is.

more updates later
