s62, lt1, ls1, & jz swaps.

I'd like to start a general thread regarding these swaps..

-Who's done 'em?
-Different mods?
-Cost, reliability, maintenance, etc.?
-Horsepower, weight, 0-60, general power?
-Sound & tone during revs & idle?
-Turbo'd/SC'd?

Personally I'd love to talk about these swaps in the e46. Or just in general.

LS1
LS/LT
S62 (M5 V8)
1JZ & 2JZ
SR20DET

I've heard the LS and LT are the best "bang for the buck," but personally, I think the JZ is one of the most amazing motors ever, and I especially enjoy it's orgasmic sound
The SR20DET is a great overall motor as well, capable of roughly 400-500 on stock internals.
Unfortunately I don't know much about the s62 though.

I don't know a whole lot about each motor, which is why I'm researching and I'd like to see a specific thread on these swaps too, for whoever is interested.

Anyways, thoughts? Opinions? Comments? Questions?

GO!

PS. Here's a video I shot today of my buddy doing a quick pull with his recently dropped 2j (used to have 1j)..

I'm posting because I am curious about this stuff too.

My vote goes to ls v8, I think they are beautiful engine's. I plan to swap a ls2 or ls3 into my E46 a few years down the road.

I think we need a "how to" guide on an LS1 swap in an e36 chassic, retaining all interior oem electronics

I've done the numbers, and here in Aus it'll cost me about 10k installed including car and engine (doing a lot of the labour in my garage though).

Your way better off with an LS motor, non turbo, no tuning issues and your pushing 400-500 hp.

I searched and read through a few threads around different forums on an sr20det swap. Some people mentioned how you'd be messing with weight distribution and such. Which is understandable. What would you need to do to drop an sr20 in there?
I was thinking about selling my e46 for enough money to build a 400+hp 240. I was going to buy a clip with an SR motor and drop it into a shell.
But I"m just curious as to how it would work in our e46's.

Sell the e46 and have put down 10-15k on a built SR + paint, suspension, wheels OR swap the e46 with the amount of pathetic savings I currently have and still be slower than a built SR.

I made a list of the SR20 parts I'd need and my buddy would hook me up with the turbo/intake manifold for 1500 total.

My cousin did an ls2 in his e36 m3. Even if you are doing the work yourself, which will be a pretty large undertaking, parts alone will cost 5-7k.

That's a nice swap, but unfortunately we have e46's and doesn't that mean it'd be more complex involving more parts? Or no?
Regardless, I'd rather have a built import haha.

go for a S54.

Its a very good engine. I was making North of 1000 whp 3 years ago and was not able to put it to the road.

Best 60-130 mph of mine has been 4,23 s. Made with S54. Its a great engine. I Loveeeeeeeeeee it

No need to elsewhere.

S54.
