My Ride: 2003 M3 Vert
Pic Request: JL 8W7 in a vert

Monday I should traveling to Jackson, MS to pick up a 2003 M3 vert and I am already planning on upgrading the sound system. LOL. Anyways, I have searched and read a lot of the different options of putting a sub in a vert and I have noticed that there have been a few members that put a JL 8w7 in the ski pass and built an enclosure around it. Does anyone have pics of this? Trying to determine what is involved.

I have thought about going this route as well:
but I am not sure if a Kicker L7 8" will be loud and clean enough with the top down.

From my research of all the threads on this subject, an IB setup is just not enough volume for when the top is down. I had JL stealthboxes with 2 8's in my old e46 M3 coupe, and it sounded great when parked, but when driving and road noise was introduced, it was pushed beyond it's limits (it was a IB setup too).

Also, does anyone know the maxim height of a box that could fit in there and butt up against the ski pass? Thought about going that route too since I could easily remove it if necessary.

Since I never got any pics, I just wanted to share how I approached my install. My main goal was to take up as little trunk space as possible, for it to be in the ski pass, but to be able to fit the factory armrest back on. My box was a little different than most because I wanted the shortest depth and I was worried about the excursion of a 8w7 would not let me put the armrest back on the way most of you normally mount it. And this was the simplest design I could come up with. Basically it is a rectangular box with two 3/4 mdf spacers on it cut out the same pattern as the ski pass. Pretty impressed with the bass that this little 8" puts out.

Pics of the box unfinished now. I painted the front black, and I'm going to carpet the other sides once I find some carpet that matches the trunk carpet.

Stupid iPhone pics, will get out the DSLR later and take better quality pics.

Hey man, i'm curious for a pic request and sounds while driving as well, I recently tried to get 2 10w3v3 in bandpass but they won't fit in my trunk :/ My shop called JL and confirmed they won't but he suggested a 8w7 so i'm trying to figure out if it's worth it.
