E30 front end headlight conversion ?
To be honest I have never seen this before. Are these off of a European model ? Or a DIY Conversion ? It looks to have projectors on the outter lights. Either way im digging it!

It was an aftermarket kit back in the day, and makes them look like some kind of godawful Chrysler.

Those are not projectors, and they are ugly -- with a capital ug.

It looks terrible. If you want projectors look for E30 Euro smileys

They _might_ be projectors, it's difficult to tell from here. Having said that, they look like sealed beams, but Euro cars did not get sealed beams because they suck. That shape in a sealed beam was used in the USA, but Euro cars could get that shape without having them be sealed beam, so I'm gonna back off on the statement, "those are not projectors."
But they are still ugly. |

Burgundrot* and yes, it looks like it. hard to tell from the front, but it might be a Baur. Doesn't really matter, convertibles are lame.

first off, Wrong Forum
second, I think that kit is a Zender headlamp kit, it used Hellla Quartz square H4/H1 lamps way back in the day. USA E30s did get round usa spec ellipsoids for two years but stopped because of replacement costs to owners. the "smiley" ellipsoids are euro spec. cut-out is to let scattered light lost in the reflector out. that original e30 looks like it has an ACS front lip spoiler. also the headlamp eyelids with that quad square headlamp conversion

Actually the cut-out is there because euro "city lights" are located on the top of the outer light (a small 5w bulb pointing slightly downwards) and light up the smiley. Sort of angel eyes of the past I guess.

no i retrofitted these over a decade ago on my E30 M3. true the city light is at the top like a dot but the "cut-out" or "smiley" is there to allow scattered light behind the reflector to shine out the bottom and directly in front. it didn't do much in reality but barely clear the bumper. but that's the reason Hella did it

![]() Pretty much. But it's a late model with plastic bumper and the ellipsoids. It's not your average E30. Kind of like the difference between a non-sport 325 with the hole-less bumper and halogens, and a 330 with the M-Tech kit and xenons. Nuh uh. E30 convertibles are absolutely awesome.

Go home, 80's Aston Martin V8 Vantage, you're not a E30, you're an Aston Martin.
