Agreed.

Now there's an armed thug out there who's got a chip on his shoulder about the Autozone hero.

Next time he robs a place, he'll shoot first.

I don't see any wrongdoing by Autozone

The employee agreed to work there which means that he agreed to their terms of employment, one of which he clearly violated. If the employee didn't like their policy, he was free to find another job.

He violated AutoZone policy and was fired as a result. I see nothing wrong.

This.

Maybe JJ will employ him now?

Nothing wrong with Autozone enforcing its policy or with the employee choosing to violate it if he felt it was the right decision and was willing to face the consequences.

My bad. I just left a forum that's mounting a boycott against Autozone, and they're all pissed because "AZ fired a hero".

Me boycotting autozone wouldn't do much. The only thing I really buy from there is oil about every three months if they happen to be having a sale. And even then only if I'm driving by a store and happen to see a sign advertising a sale, while I'm thinking about doing an oil change in the BMW soon.

You'd have to boycott a whole host of other stores in addition to AutoZone. Walmart for example has done the exact same thing in the past. And I need my everyday low prices.

No no, just autozone, because it's in the news right now. After about a month or so, when the news picks up a different story, I can go back to buying at autozone.

On the bright side, the ex employee should have no trouble finding a job at any number of independently owned convenience stores or pawn shops in bad neighborhoods.

Can't we all just agree to boycott them simply because they suck? I have never gotten the right part from them the first time. Not once.
I refuse to shop there already.

actually, i did buy a P/S pump from there lately.

Wait, that was back in the spring. Nevermind. It's still holding up, though and for half the cost of even a bmaparts.com pump

The fact of the matter is that by defending himself against a robber in this manner, he almost turned into an insurance liability for the company.

Which probably had a lot to do with him getting fired.

It's always taught not to escalate confrontations. Let them take the stuff, it's fine. Police will review the surveillance video and insurance will take care of the loss which really isn't much. It's not worth putting the clerks or other customers in danger.

There's a reason retailers have these policies in place.
