Yes.
Will it affect performance? Yes. Is the recommended AKI 91? Yes. |

Don't be cheap. It'll average out in terms of cost, and there are far more benefits with 91.

Not only will it not save you money, it will cost you money.
Premium costs more per gallon but the engine performs better so the cost per mile actually is less. Break out your calculator and do the math. Seriously. Last edited by jdstrickland; 12-05-2012 at 09:09 PM. |

I feel like **** now.
Last week i was putting in gas and i told the guy 40$ super. I check my gas gauge as im about to drive away and the thank is nearly full, so im like WTF? Long story short we argued and he put in regular. Driving on regular sucks. I feel like its almost as if im trying to breathe through a bag. Now that the tank is empty and i put in super i feel like i lost torque, i may not have but it just doesent feel right.

Buys a car with the "Performance Package"
Wants to put regular gas in it. Go figure.

I've tried testing out 87 for a few weeks then going back to 92 and I've NEVER had a difference in fuel economy nor have I noticed any difference in performance in my 325i. I don't believe the ZHP has a higher compression ratio so the results should be the same for you. Many people will say you are stupid for putting in regular and that it will cost you more. Unfortunately I have not seen empirical data from these people. I do put 92 in my car regularly but I suppose it's because I can afford it and I really have no other reason. You will find many people admitting that they use regular gas and have for many years with zero engine issues.

I had to put half a tank of 89 in my M once. 3 am, back country roads, I was lucky to get anything.
Felt horrible doing it... However, my dad puts 87 in his 2012 528. NEVER uses mid-grade or premium. It's shameful really...

No, you have to use Coke. Make sure it's Caffeine Free.
Idiot.

Read your manual. ZHP is no different than a regular 330 or an M3 -- they all take 91 octane. And running a couple of gallons of 87 in a pinch won't hurt anything. Also, in before ridiculous comment about the mystical unicorn-harnessing traits of Shell V-Power. |

Octane rating is one thing. Also consider that gas companies typically put more detergents in their higher octane fuels.
