Pulled this about the "villan"

Quote:

We Have Met the Enemy and He Is...: After a series of quick shots including Chris Pine's Kirk running through an alien-looking field of red plants, at last we are introduced to the Enterprise's new foe, who appears with a pretty big gun. Initially Cumberbatch was rumored to be playing a new take on Khan Noonien Singh, the superhuman tyrant from the original TV series that terrorized Kirk and crew in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. But word lately is that he's actually Lt. Cmdr. Gary Mitchell, a former friend of Kirk's dating back to his cadet days who also appeared on the original Star Trek TV series and acquired telekinetic powers after crossing a galactic barrier.

Ha, well I guess that's it then. Should be good and I'm actually kinda excited about it. The one thing that is nice about this timeline is that you get to see completely new villains and plots that sorta existed, but were never covered before.

Ha, is that the E? I only watched the trailer once or twice and didn't really pay much attention to that ship. I didn't think the E, or any other Constitution class vessel, could enter the atmosphere because it didn't have landing ability. I guess it might have crashing ability though...

And come to think of it, in the first movie of this timeline, the shipyards are on Earth, rather than in orbit

Does anyone know if they're going to have cameo appearance(s) like Leonard Nimoy had in the first one? I'd like to see William Shatner or maybe even George Takai make an appearance

I doubt it. The Nimoy appearance was mainly designed to bridge the gap between the two timelines and to try to draw fans of TOS and TNG to accept this new crew and timeline. Without Nimoy there, i think the response from Trekkies might have been a bit different.

Nimoy is also the only one that really makes sense for this. First, Shatner's Kirk is dead. He died in "Generations" so he can't come back from the other timeline. Obviously Kelley and Doohan have boldly gone where we haven't already, so they're out. None of the others really make sense for a cameo though, because none of them came back in time with Nero and Spock. Certainly nobody from TOS; Sulu, Chekov, etc. would be over 100 by the time the destruction of Romulus would occur, so they couldn't come back. Maybe a cameo from Voyager or TNG, but I honestly doubt it. And Nimoy retired from acting I think and his signoff and passing of the torch was just about perfect in the first movie.

So more likely it'd make more sense to see Jean Luc-Picard? I don't know the Star Trek universe that well

Constitution class vessels are capable of entering atmosphere but not landing, there was a TOS episode where they did enter a planet's atmosphere. I'm pretty sure that the Intrepid class (Voyager) is the only one that's able to land, without crashing, on a planet. At least those are the only ones on TV to do so.

Also, shipyards on Earth build stuff to be assembled in Orbit...at least that's how it was always said in the TV series.

Possibly, but from what I've seen, the move to this current timeline was a one shot deal. It appeared that Nero and Spock went through the same hole in space time in order to get to this universe. It's unlikely that others would pass through a different portal to get to the same universe.

As much of a nerd as I am I could never get excited about star trek, but that movie looks sick.

yeah, I vote Mitchell vs. Khan.

Even with the Alternate timeline, Khan was from the past so he was already on the Botany Bay when the timelines diverged.

Which would mean he's in both timelines, unaffected by nero's arrival.

Look at this sh1t! There are so many parallels between the motion picture, wok, new star trek, and into darkness. Spock death scene in the new one???

yep, he'll still be an option if they ever want to re-visit Khan as the antagonist. He just be floating around in hibernation now.

I probably won't see it. Any movie I see needs to have at least a dozen jumps from impossible heights and this looks like it will only have maybe 8 or 10.
