Would you take a 10k paycut to work at the WH? I got a offer for a federal job at the WH but its a 10k paycut. I like the idea of federal job with security of probably never getting laid off. I currently work for a defense contractor but with defense budget cuts not sure how many missiles and fighter jets the government will be buying in the near future.

Get your 20 years of federal service and head for the hills with fabulous health and retirement benefits, then take another job and double-dip as long as you can... many, many people would kill to have a job on the Hill like that...

It all depends
If you make $50k now, that $10k is a huge chunk
If you make $150k, that $10k won't make or break you and might be worth giving up if you were getting a "better" job opportunity

And what would you be doing at the white house? (That is what wh stands for right?)
If you are going to be doing something that will engage you and there is potential for growth and advancement, sure
You might even be able to parlay the wh experience into something bigger down the road
If you are going to be sitting at a desk and not do anything meaningful and fulfilling, it would get old pretty quickly

Commute, cost of living.

Networking and resume would be great, though...

Commute and cost of living in DC no less.

I like money too much to take a pay cut personally.

I basically will be sitting at a desk not really engaging anyone so I probably wont run into the big guy at the cafeteria .

Absolutely.

Of course 20k vs 30k is a much bigger deal than 110k vs 120k.

Truth. A $10K cut would put me at $26K a year. NOPE.

If you can afford to take the hit, do it. If you can afford to take the hit by living frugally, do it. In the long run, it will pay off.

What is the % pay cut? That would be more helpful than the dollar amount.....

Depends on the benefits available, the long-term upward mobility potential in addition to whether it will be a good investment career wise for taking the next step.

Entirely depends on what you'd be doing. Would you be tied to the current administration? If so, job security may be a poor term to use.

I will have a 1099 this year in addition to W2, I will get some deductions for my own "law firm" and I should reduce my taxable income significantly this year.

I was being facetious when asking for the TR's, lol.

Is it a COI having your own law practice while being employed by a firm?
