Living in Australia, this is quite obviously plastered all over the front page of our newspapers. However the sentiment of most people is, whilst accepting it is a tragic event, that there it was nothing more than a harmless prank with absolutely no intention of causing harm to any individual.
Pranks like these have been happening for a very long time and my personal opinion is she obviously made a mistake but I cannot believe how everyone has been sensationalising this episode. Even Prince Charles made a few light hearted comments about the prank and it simply wasn't that big a deal. I believe that behind the scenes she may have been absolutely berated or held accountable by the hospital which perhaps pushed her over the edge. In terms of the legal side of things, there isn't anything that they can be held accountable for as has been ascertained already by lawyers. |

Forget the West and head north?
Anyone remember Sarah Palin--a presidential campaign in full swing--talking to "French President Nicholas Sarkozy" aka some Montreal shock jock. "I just love killing those animals."... "From my house I can see Belgium"... and the Joe the Plumber song. Fact is that trained media pros got suckered in on this one. I feel sorry for that poor nurse, but there's more to this than meets the eye. Last edited by avincent52; 12-09-2012 at 08:54 AM. |

If she committed suicide, that's sad, but I'm not blaming those DJs for it. Even if that nurse's bosses were extra hard on her about it (which I kinda doubt, even if she were going to be fired for it), it wouldn't have ruined her career. The suicide is ultimately on her IMO. The DJs putting that 14 yr old up to a lie detector and pressuring her to talk about her rape is FAR worse than this stunt.

I feel bad for the DJs. The nurse was on the phone for 2 seconds with them. She should have just laughed it off. She killed herself over nothing and left behind her family. What a fvcking idiot.

Can someone please tell me what they said to her that made her kill herself? What is the story behind this?

Now CNN is reporting that, wracked by guilt, the Australian radio station that hosted the program that instigated the hoax will be sending the family of the suicide a cool $500,000+

This isn't the first time 2day FM has had a scandal, and it won't be the last.
It's sad that the woman felt that suicide was the only way out of this. But I am still surprised that anyone at the hospital fell for this, they didn't sound remotely believable, nor does the queen just 'ring up' people. A stupid idea gone totally wrong.

That article has one description of it. Basically, if you look for articles regarding past scandals related to that radio station, that incident pops up a lot.
