Increasingly loud tinnitus

Ever since I've started working in a different office, I've been getting fairly bad tinnitus. When I walk towards windows, I hear it less. When I walk back towards the fluorescent lights, I hear it more. I have heard that fluorescent lights can cause this.

On occasion at night, I'll wake up with what I can only describe as incessant buzzing and ringing.

Can fluorescent lighting cause this, and if so, how can I get around it?

I've never heard of lighting having this effect, did you just watch Joe versus the volcano?

Honestly, I don't see how tinnitus can be related to lighting (even if they emit a frequency pitch - which I do not know). Tinnitus is generally caused, or so I thought, by listening to loud music or being exposed to loud noises regularly. Have you been listening to that damn rock and roll again Zell!?!?!?!?!?!?

Or you have a brain tumor....
