It's the same gearbox as the manual - just the electronic unit that attaches to it makes it different. And SMG's are not nearly as bad as people make them out to be - most of the 'issue' is misinformation and misuse that leads to the problems.


If you don't maintain the engine, it can lead to an early failure correct? The same can be said about RTABs, diffs, vanos, etc. The same applies to the SMG and manual transmissions.



Nice pickup OP - Over 90,000 miles logged with an SMG and zero issues here, enjoy it !!!!!


Oh ya, make sure you read up on the manual - these cars (manual and SMG) have some pretty cool features and there are some good words of advice in there, like don't let the car idle to warm up.. Enjoy and welcome to the fun world of owning an M3 !

smg is a hit or miss dont let them scare you not all smg are bad some are maintained and last long
