Headers

Can anybody answer a few questions for me??
I recently purchased some nice headers, and exhaust for my 330. I bought all new gaskets and hardware for the install. Now, a lot of people are telling me that because I'm disconnecting SAP,car is going to run really rough till it warms up. Any truth to this? If so, how long is car going to run rough? does it hurt the motor? After lots of $$$ ,now I'm debating installing new headers and exhaust..

The secondary air pump is a post-combustion device, so I don't believe disconnecting it would cause any roughness. It injects fresh cold air to lean out the stream of exhaust entering the cats to let them warm up quicker on cold starts, so that the cats are operating at normal efficiency quickly and your cold start emissions don't go overboard. It's an emissions compliance device, so I don't think you'll notice any difference in smoothness. That said, I've never tried disconnecting it on any car I've owned, so I'm curious as well, to hear from someone that's actually done this. Fact is, the SAP operation is closely tied to the VANOS strategy, and one may not work well without the other, so there's a possible effect on VANOS operation there..

Last winter , I had some trouble with SAP system ( broken vaccuum line) and the car was "shaky" upon a cold start. .I am thinking that it will run "shaky, rough" till the motor warms up. I really need to hear from somebody that lives in the Northeast and has headers installed how their car runs.

you're in ny, as am i, i also wanted headers, and i bought em, got em jet hot coated, and they have been in my shed for years, gota get around to selling them

you wana fool with emissions move out of ny

it's getting harder and harder

now, if the cat isn't in the stock location, which it is impossible to do on these cars , you run the risk of them busting your chops

figuring in the cash for the work and the opening of a can of worms, i decided on a magnaflow cat back and call it a day

just leave it in there
you'll get a service engine soon light if you unplug it
ive had headers for a couple of years and i have no running issues with it still in there
yes since you dont have cats its pretty much useless but its not going to hurt leaving it in there
there is a sap sim out there so that you can avoid the s.e.s light but if i recall its around $250
