Should i buy this blk/red coupe?

Hi. So i recently sold my car and want to get back into a BMW. I wanna know, is maintenance cost a b*tch for a high milage? I had an 02 M3 and that was expensive. As my next bmw, I preferred a 3-series wagon or four door but then came across this car for sale. Please let me know if i should pull the trigger.

It's a 2001 325ci
160k miles, clean title, no accidents, 2nd owner since 33k miles.
Sports package, clean in and out, new rotors and brakes.
Carfax shows 1st owner as "rental" from 02-03.
When i had asked him if there was any leaks, he said a minor oil leak but was normal for an old car. Is that even remotely true? shouldn't all leaks be fixed?
He's asking $5500

Offer $4800.

I wouldn't pay more than...$5,200 or so. And the main reason it's even that high, is because of that fantastic color combo.

My old 2000 323i had a minor oil leak too. I never had to put extra oil in, as it wasn't that bad. It's a problem a lot of older cars will go through, but something that should be looked into as that particular e46 may have head gasket problems of some sort.
Check around the oil filter as well. Leaks can come from there too.

E46Mango (I believe) had a thread that pertains to oil leaking and possible solutions to different problems.

lol. The interior has me settling for a coupe instead of a sedan/wagon like i originally wanted. How much would it cost to replace head cover or valve cover gasket?

I say go for it too. It looks very clean. I personally am not a fan of that red interior though.

it's an Autotragic transmission..no way would i suggest to buy an automatic with 160K on it. then again i wouldn't suggest buy any E46 automatic.
i had zero oil leaks on my 323Ci when i sold it, but i take care of my cars.

The interior is just some red seats and red door lining. Which you can strip out of a junk e46 and retrofit it to any other e46.

Automatic means " No no no. Don't buy it. "

I wouldn't buy an auto with that many miles on it. If it decides to go out it will total your car hahaha.

If your daily is a Civic Si, I would imagine that you would hate driving an automatic. Also, while the color combo is sweet, it doesn't justify buying an automatic ... 325 ... with an oil leak.

What Alex said... Auto trans with 160k is a time bomb with a very short fuse

I didn't realize it was autotragic... I'm changing my opinion, pass on this one.

(Please pardon my auto-correct)

FWIW, I know someone selling a clean one-owner 2002 wagon with a 5-speed with 110,000 miles asking $6000 in North Jersey.

that is not Imola Red, that is "Tanin Red" which is a Montana leather grain and a factory interior color for the non-m coupes.

Was that ever available on verts? That interior would look sexy in my 04 Silver Gray convertible
