Dynavin poor radio reception
I have an 2004 318i and installed a dynavin d99 the other day, everything is connected properly however the radio reception is terrible. I have searched the forum but havent found a suitable answer, can anyone suggest what the problem may be? My car had the standard business cd player.
Thanks in advance! |

You probably need an antenna adapter to power the factory antenna. This is covered a few times in various Dynavin posts if you do a search. Also covered on J & T distrubuting's website FAQ section where he posts the Metra part# needed.

Thanks dgreen78, I have searched for it, everything related i have found on the fourms and J & T state "Some E46s before early 2002 have an antenna that is powered by the factory head unit, when you remove the oem head unit, you remove the power source resulting in sub par radio reception. The fix is to buy a Metra 40-VW53 antenna adapter, connect the blue power wire on it to the red wire in the dynaivn harness. This restores power to the antenna and will improve reception."
Mine is a 2004 model but im hoping its something simple like the earlier model ! |

Yeah, that applies to early E46s, yours is a later model. More likely you have a bad antenna adapter, Take a look at the plastic plug end of the adapter, there is a pin in the center and a ring around it. The pin should be the same length as the ring around it, it SHOULD NOT be recessed below the ring. If it is recessed OR bent OR damaged you are not going to get any reception. If anything looks odd contact your dealer and request a new adapter.
