I am an ex-cop. I am very familiar with guns.

My thinking is simple. If there are few or even no guns in a society there will be no gun deaths. A criminal without a gun is not such a brave criminal.

A mentally disturbed person without a gun is much less of a threat.

People are assaulted by drunk drivers and many end up dead every year.
Are you going to ban alcohol or cars ?

If you injured someone with your car you might get a fine or probation. ...heaven forbid if you had points against your driver's license. But if you assault someone with a gun you often get an automatic 7 or 10 years. If you kill someone with your car you often walk away..........ask Ted Kennedy ( if he was still alive ).. he drove off a bridge with his secretary whom he was screwing, she drown, he left the scene of the accident and did not report it for 8 hours and all he did as pay a 35 dollar fine for reckless driving.

Don't forget, even if you knew; that the Supreme Court has ruled on several occasions that the police are not obligated to come to your aid during a 911 call. They provide a service which is not a constitutional right. When you need help and the police don't come what are you going to do then?

Why do you consistently fail to see the error of your logic? Unless you go back in time and stop the invention of the gun, or melt down every single firearm in existence, then bad people will still find a way to get a gun and do bad things.
