Help... Can't get the vanos off I'm stuck
I've gone as far as I can. I did the step by step instructions from beisen(s/p). I'm not sure how to get this thing off now.

Did you take off all the bolts in the diy? Or did you break any?

You did not remove the stud there in the right. You need to take the support bracket off first, then remove the stud.
I think you did not follow the procedure. You did not remove the caps to remove the hex studs connecting to cans. Reread and follow beisans procedure. Last edited by BMWCaptain; 12-16-2012 at 01:21 PM. |

Mine is a double the procedure is for a single so I was trying to wing some of it. So both hex screws need to be loosened and I should be good right?

The stud on the right was loose I would have taken it off had the vanos actually moved.

Yes, Beisan lists procedures for all types of vanos.
You don't just loosen them, you have to remove them. Oh, and by the way they are threaded as a left hand thread. It will loosen when turned to the right. Follow their procedure and it will come off. |

I put everything back on, but ill try it again this weekend. Weird thing though after i put everything back on i check my codes and im getting an C3101 and C3400 after about 2 hrs of searching the code i cant find the reason and my engine makes a weird whining nose when i put my key in the on position before start up. Any of you ever heard of this?

I you want a easy DIY be sure to turn the bolts inside the vanos unit "left hand thread" but I'll be sure to buy new ones because they break easily
