Let me put it this way: the 330 Is a family sedan. The m3 is a race car.
The m3 is not unreliable in any way. In fact the m3 engine is just about bulletproof other than a few small things. However the cost of parts is generally double the cost of regular 3 series parts.

in other words M3 is a waste of a car if you only drive it on public roads for daily activities. Nothing but a badge and bragging rights.
Might as well put a sticker on a non-ZHP saying, "I can afford a M3"

M3's require specific maintenance. The reliability of it depends on how well it was maintained. How well it was maintained is usually pretty well reflected in its price.

Of course this can be said about any car, but it REALLY holds true for the M3.

Buy the m3 ... the power is awesome & SMG true sec of gear shifting..

I currently own 325(Xi) & was considering moving into a newer car like 1 series ( didn't like the interior rattle on 18k miles car ) & 335i . But why pay 30-35k on a car when u can buy ( well maintain m3 with all records as u should ask for it ) for 13-22k and walk inside bmw dealer with 3k and ask for 100k warranty according to my local dealer...
