225/45-17 or 235/45-17 on 17x8 wheel.
Im needing wanting some feedback on what tire size. I currently have a 2002 330i with 205/50-17 on 17x7 wheels. This is what was on the car when I bought it. I have 3 bent wheels so I bought Style 44's in 17x8 ( I like this wheel).. And Im looking at tires, i can go with the 225/45-17 and it will fit perfect and give me more width and great handling or go for a wider 235/45-17 and get a bit more width for looks..
i like the looks of the 235/45-17 but is there a nbig trade off to handling over a 225/45-17.. I just see a lot of people saying 225/45 is better. Nobody ever says on a 7-7.5 or 8" wide wheel tho.. Thanks for any input. |

225/45/17 will work just fine on a 17x8.

For that rim width I would go with 225/45/17.

thats what I was leaning toward.. All the tire charts show 8.86 section width for 225/45 and 9.25 for 235/45.. So thats what I like about the 235 its a bit wider.. but the chart dont say if its a 7 or 8" rim they r using.
I'm probably just over thinking all of this. ( my wife says i have that problem) |

225/45R17 fits well on 17X8 wheels.

245/40 also works on 17x8 (although maximal "approved" tire width for wheel width according to some recommendation charts from tire brands like Continental & Nokian).
Running staggered tire sizes on non staggered wheels.. ![]() Some pictures on how that looks: ![]() ![]() ![]() (Nokian Z G2 tires) I'd probably go for 235s all around if I'm to replace tires again on these wheels because I think it would look better rather than 225s. 225/45 17s Goodyear OptiGrip sidewall on 17x8. ![]()

Just remember that different tires run wider, or narrower, than other tires. Not all tires will look like that on a given rim width.
